Place a part in an assembly

  1. Display the Parts Library tab (Teamcenter Parts Library tab when working in SEEC).

    Tip:

    If you want to place an open file into an assembly, set the Look In location to Open Documents.

  2. Select the part you want to place and drag it into the assembly window.

    Note:

    You must save the assembly before you can place any parts in it.

  3. Position the part in the assembly using the available assembly relationships on the Assemble command bar. You can define mate, align, connect, angle, and tangent relationships to position the part.

  4. Repeat step 3 until the part is fully positioned and all the assembly relationships have been applied.

Tip:

  • You can also place parts in an assembly by dragging a part document from Windows Explorer and dropping it in the assembly window.

  • You can place a part in an assembly by double-clicking the part document from the Parts Library tab or from the search results list following a search in the Parts Library tab.

  • If this is the first part in the assembly, it is always placed as grounded. For subsequent parts in the assembly, you can hold the Shift key during this operation, and the part is placed in the assembly at the cursor location with no relationships.

  • The Insert option applies a planar mate relationship and an axial align relationship to fully position the part. The axial align relationship is applied with the Fixed option. If you want to rotate the part later, you can set the Floating option.

  • You can control whether the part is displayed in another assembly, a drawing of the assembly, or included in a parts list with the Reference options on the Properties dialog box.

  • After the first relationship is applied, the part window disappears and the part is placed into the assembly using the relationship you applied.

  • If you are placing a subassembly, you can specify a display configuration you want to use with the Use Configurations dialog box.

  • You can place a simplified version of a part into an assembly by setting the Use Simplified Part command on the Parts Library shortcut menu. Any faces that were deleted when simplifying the part are not available for positioning purposes.

  • You can use the Construction Display option on the Assemble command bar to display any construction elements you want to use to help you position the part. For example, you can use a part reference plane as input when applying a mate relationship.

  • You can press Esc to interrupt the placement sequence at any time.

  • When placing a subassembly using FlashFit or the Reduced Steps mode, the parts in the subassembly must be active before you can select a face. If the subassembly is not already active, you can use the Activate Part button on the Assemble command bar to activate the placement part in the subassembly which contains the face you want to select.

  • When you drag an unmanaged part into an Insight XT managed assembly, and then close the assembly, the part file is displayed on the common property dialog box using the original file name. You have to assign the required properties Item ID, Revision, and Item Name, and then upload the documents into the managed location. The part is in the cache using the assigned name.
