Saves the selected part to a new name, folder, and format you specify. This is useful when the part contains assembly features.

Because assembly features are visible only within the context of the assembly, saving a part with assembly feature modifications to a new document allows you to create a drawing for the modified part, prior to creating an assembly drawing. You can also use the stand-alone document for manufacturing or analysis purposes.

When working with a weldment assembly, this is also useful when you have modified the part using assembly features to represent weld preparation or post-weld machining operations. Only material removal features, such as cutouts, holes, and chamfers are copied to the new document.

You cannot create stand-alone documents of the weld bead features you create in a weldment assembly.

The new document is associative to the parent document. If you want to break the associative link between the new document and the parent document, you can open the new document, then edit the part copy feature, and clear the Link To File option on the Part Copy Parameters dialog box. If you clear this option, then save the new document, the associative link is permanently broken.

Note:

You can save the new document as a Solid Edge Part or Sheet Metal document.
