Property Manager command

Enables you to modify existing properties or create new properties for one or more Solid Edge documents. You can use Property Manager to edit the properties for the active document, a group of documents you define, or all the documents used in an assembly or assembly drawing.

Property Manager uses a table-driven user interface that makes it easy to view and edit all the document properties for a group of documents at one time. This reduces the productivity burden that can occur if all the documents were individually opened and edited.

Viewing all the document properties for a group of documents simultaneously also makes it easier to ensure that the document properties are defined completely and uniformly.

Property Manager with Parts

When the active document is a part or sheet metal document, Property Manager displays the document properties for the active document only. You can view, add, and edit the document properties.

Property Manager with Assemblies and Parts Lists

When the active document is an assembly or a drawing of an assembly, Property Manager displays the document properties for all the components in the assembly.

When you change the document properties for the components in an assembly drawing that includes a parts list, the parts list will need to be updated to reflect the changes you made. Using Property Manager to edit the properties makes it easy to ensure that the parts list information is uniform and accurate.

Property Manager with No Active Document

When the Solid Edge application is running, but no document is open, the Property Manager command is still available on the Application menu. When you click Property Manager, the Select dialog box is displayed.

You can then use the Look In options to browse to and select the documents you want to display in Property Manager. You can select individual documents or an entire folder. Select the document or folder in the left pane, then click the Add button to add the selection to the Edit Properties list. When you click OK, the selected documents are displayed in Property Manager.

Property Manager and Families of Parts

You can use Property Manager to view and edit the document properties for an entire family of parts when the master part is open in Solid Edge. Property Manager displays the document properties for the master part and all the family members. This is useful when you want to define unique document properties for individual family members. For example, you can define a unique Title, Document Number, or Material property for each family member.

Defining a New Material Name Using Property Manager

You can use Property Manager to select an existing material or to define a new local material for a document. When you select an existing material from the Material list in the Material cell in Property Manager, the existing material and its properties are applied to the document.

When you type a new material name into the Material cell for a document in Property Manager, the new material name is applied to the document without modifying the material.mtl database file. This allows you to use Property Manager to define more descriptive material names that meet your company's requirements.

For more information, see the Material Table command Help topic.

Property Manager and Foreign Data

You can edit properties for any document that supports standard property storage. For example, you can use Property Manager to edit the document properties for Word and Excel documents that are part of a design project constructed in Solid Edge. You can display non-Solid Edge documents in Property Manager when no Solid Edge document is open. See the Property Manager with No Active Document section for more details.

If a document doesn't support standard property storage, an error message is displayed and the property row on the dialog box becomes read-only, preventing you from changing the property value.

Note:

The SEStatus property is read-only for managed files.
