Copy PMI elements from a sketch or feature

This procedure can be used to copy one or more 2D dimensions and annotations from a sketch or profile-based feature to a 3D model view. The reference plane of the source elements is used to place them in the 3D model.

  1. Choose the PMI tab→Tools group→Copy To PMI command .

  2. (Choose the Features/Sketches to Copy From) Do one of the following:

    • To copy 2D dimensions and annotations from a profile-based feature, assembly feature, or sketch in a part or sheet metal model, click the feature in the graphics window or on the PathFinder tab.

    • To copy 2D elements from a sketch, on the PathFinder tab or in the graphics window, click the sketch.

  3. (Select Individual 2D Elements to Copy) In the graphics window, all eligible 2D elements on the feature or sketch are highlighted as you move your cursor over them. Do the following:

    1. Click the individual dimensions and annotations that you want to copy to the PMI model.

You can remove elements from the selection set by pressing the Shift key while clicking. You can add them back into the selection set by clicking them again.

    2. When you are finished selecting individual elements, on the Copy to PMI command bar, click the check mark to accept the selection set.

  4. On the command bar, click Finish to copy the elements and display the new PMI annotations and dimensions in the graphics window.

The PMI elements are also added to the PMI Dimensions and PMI Annotations collections on the PathFinder tab.

If you are editing a 3D model view, the PMI elements are automatically associated with that view.
