Apply a Cam Relationship Between Two Parts

  1. On the command bar, in the Relationship Types list, click the Cam button.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • If you are replacing a relationship you deleted from an existing part, select the part to be repositioned, then select a closed set of tangent faces that define the cam.

    • If you are placing a new part into an assembly, select a closed set of tangent faces that define the cam.

  3. On the command bar, click the Accept button.

  4. Select a part in the assembly that represents the cam follower.

  5. On the part in the assembly, select a follower element. The follower element can be a plane, a cylinder, a sphere, or a keypoint.

  6. On the command bar, click the Accept button.

  7. Press Enter.

Tip:

  • You can use the Face and Chain options on the command bar to specify whether you want to define the closed set of tangent faces individually or let the software chain the faces together for you.

  • When you select a planar face as the follower element, the planar face is considered to be infinite. In some cases, this may not give you the cam behavior you want.
